La Fin Absolute du Monde

How did you meet and come together as a group?
First off, we love being called a group, especially since it’s just two of us, we hope to one day be known as a kind of “powercouple” But we met while I was tour managing a band (The Last Nova) and she was working at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas. We started talking about music and the rest is history. I not only make music with this lovely woman, but I also made her my WIFE! So what happens in Vegas, sometimes comes back home to California with you.

What albums or artists most inspired you guys to want to make music?
Um, we both really love Bjork and another group from Japan called Mono. Bjork to us re-invents herself with every release. Fearless releases, not afraid to explore sound and technology. Mono is a group in this “Post-Rock” genre. They make this amazing instramental music, kinda like Mogwai, or Explosions in the Sky, but theirs is just so emotional. Oh, and can’t forget Deftones. We love the Deftones.

You guys have a unique sound, what inspired it and how would you explain it to listeners?
Hmm…inspiration? That’s a good one. Um, first off, we’d like to say that our “unique” sound comes from different genres we’re from. Cyndy is classically trained, and comes from the classical world, while I am self taught and come from the world of heavier more aggressive music, that right there is the where most of the “unique-ness” comes from. As far as inspiration, well, naturally… life… all the ups and downs, all the beautiful and crazy people in our loves that have touched our lives somehow. Just feeling life and watching it go on around us seems to inspire us to add a soundtrack. Also… movies! We will watch a movie and then go write a song, I don’t know what it is, but that’s how it is, and it’s usually horror/thriller type movies at that, but the foreign ones, cause tend to be WAAAY crazier and unpredictable… just like our music! As far as music goes, I’m an old school metal person, I grew up in the 80’s love, and I mean LOVE MEGADETH, Faith No More, Radiohead, Dilinger Escape Plan, Stevie Wonder, Portishead, Bjork….stuff like that I guess

What do you hope listeners will get from listening to your music?
We’re not a real “preachy” band, and our songs don’t have a “message”, but we really want people to understand that we are a genre-less entity. We love music, we love sounds, we love the moods that music can set. We hope people listen to the songs and appreciate the musicianship, enjoy the vibe, whatever it may be, and hopefully the music will evoke and emotion. We like to take our listeners through a musical adventure during which they wont know what’s coming up next. Its exciting to see their reactions!

How would you explain your live show to people?
A passionate onslaught of anger and love…sex…

So your EP is coming out in the fall, how was it going through the recording process?
We’re actually still in the recording process. When we started we were all self produced. Then the production team of Social Security got a hold of some of our Soundcloud stuff and we’ve been working with them. Some of your readers might know them, it’s Todd Weinstock, formerly of Glassjaw and Men Women and Children, and Marc Jacobs, industry vet who’s worked with Velvet Revolver, The Cult among others. Working with those guys is like a match made in experimental music heaven. We’re into the same stuff, and they get what we want to do. We traveled down to the Los Angeles area a little while ago to record with them, and now we know we HAVE to record all of our stuff with these guys. I’m really excited for people to hear it, but also, can’t forget, we just released a single on Foolscircle Records (UK) called “She’s Gotta Be a Pirate” on July 18th. You can get it on iTunes, and Spotify. It’s a digital release, but from what I’m hearing it’s actually doing quite well, so go check it out people you won’t be disapointed!!!

If you guys could pick artists to tour with, who would it be?
Would love to tour with Shiny Toy Guns, Dilinger, would LOVE to tour w/Bjork, um Deftones, dream tours those would be.

In your experiences, what has been the hardest part of pursuing music?
Feeling old, and feeling relavant. I remember one day some years back me and a couple friends are hanging at my house talking about the “good old days” of being in bands and what not. Complaining about the fact that either the bands we were trying .out for were either too young, or way too old. Just feeling like we were done cause we hadn’t “made it”. Then one of those guys that night Dave Rude, went on to play in Tesla and now I get to watch that dude on VH1! hahaha! As for me (Chicky), the most difficult part was finding a unique voice and sound that I could feel comfortable enough with to apply, explore and develop. Before I had met Jason, I was constantly told that I had to stop trying to write too many different kinds of music, that I HAD to choose just one if I wanted to be successful in anything. It was the most discouraging thing to hear. So now here we are in our 30s, a little late in the game maybe but our musical interests have meshed and expanded to an even crazier level of diversity. So, we dont have any expectations. At all. We just want to make what we want to make and hope our listeners can simply feel the passion behind it. But to sound like anything? We dont want to sound like anything in particular, and that is hard.

If you weren’t making music, what else would you be doing?
Living sad unfulfilling lives.

Funniest experience while being a duo?
Um…? I don’t know? Our life is a bit of an adventure…we spent some time on tour with the TV Show Yo Gabba Gabba, THAT was a good time, but as far as like cliche tour stories of druken misadventures, and Motley Crue like sexcapades, we did that in our youth, so we’re pretty over it. Not to say we’re boring people, but hmmm…Our video was an interesting shoot. Oh, here we go, maybe your listeners will appreciate this, I don’t remember if you’ve seen our video for the single “She’s Gotta Be a Pirate”, but to say the least, it’s pretty graphic. The guy that directed it, Jason Smith, made a movie, a movie you can get on Netflix actually called, “The Period”. It’s this crazy horror-y type movie about a girl with a never ending period. That being said when the director asked how far he could go, us being “artists” were like, DO IT! Do your thing…So 6 hours and gallons of fake blood later, we’re in this crazy secret forest in San Francisco with the actress in the video covered in fake blood..fake blood leaking from her crotch area. It’s just her, me, and a friend of mine next to his car. Now keep in mind that the place we’re at is pretty deserted, a cop rolls up. I didn’t think anything at first, this I was like..SHIT! Two dudes..secluded location..girl leaking fake blood from her crotch…Oh no. Luckily the girl explained to the cop that the blood was fake, took the dude a while, but he eventually understood. There, I hope that works..

Thanks for taking the time out to answer some questions! Anything you’d like to add?
Again our single is out right now! Get it on iTunes, “She’s Gotta Be a Pirate”. We have a couple more EPs scheduled to come out in September and December ’11. So watch out for them! In the meantime, here are some links…
